Built on the site of the history Rugby Park, Waikato Stadium is considered ‘the spiritual home of rugby in Hamilton’, an important sport for the region and in fact the nation. But this stadium is designed to accommodate so much more than rugby, and for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, it will host five Group Matches. You can’t miss the iconic lighting towers that stand 50 metres tall above the turf, or the carved Whatanoa Gateway added at the entrance in 2003. The gateway symbolically recalls the tradition of passing through the ‘Waharoa’ (carved entrance) on the way to battle.
